Bible Question:
Why are stories and movies like Harry Potter bad? Are they not just make believe? What is the harm as long as no witchcraft is praticed by the person watching and there is a understanding the it is not real? Tammy |
Bible Answer: Dear TLenard6, Harry Potter movies and books are considered bad by many Christians because they teach the principals of witchcraft and cause the reader to sympathize with Harry's character who practices deceit and disrespect and the like. It is the first time in this country or in Western society that I have heard of such a rage over a "make believe" book that promoted things that our culture never thought of as good character traits. Really the problem is they are designed for the young who are impressionable and with crime so prevalent these days, it is not a good influence. It is not that there is "make-believe" supernatural things talked about in the story but good is not portrayed as good and evil as evil. Deceit and disrespect are not good for society. However, in "Lord of the Rings" for example...there is good, there is evil, there is the supernatural. But good character traits are portrayed as good and evil character traits are portrayed as evil. This is a much better influence on young impressionable minds. This is my opinion. Itiswritten |
