Bible Question:
Why are stories and movies like Harry Potter bad? Are they not just make believe? What is the harm as long as no witchcraft is praticed by the person watching and there is a understanding the it is not real? Tammy |
Bible Answer: Part II The influence of the Harry Potter books is just like one of these absent bricks. Without God’s standards, it is very easy to fall into a trap of "good appearances." God tells us to overcome evil with good; and according to God’s standards, wizardry is not "good!" according to God! As God given "absolutes" are in the process of being removed from our society (in the name of "separation of church and state"), the empty spaces are replaced with the shifting sands of tolerance and humanism. We are being hurled closer to an age where "everyone does what is right in his or her own eyes." “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight.” Isaiah 5:21 Could there be order in this kind of chaos? God is not the author of confusion, but someone is! Harry Potter aside, in choices and questions set before us, and for our children, to whom shall we go for guidance? How will we determine what is "good?" "God has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
