Bible Note: Joe, your post about clapping and raising hands brings to mind a story I heard long ago. A man came from a country church to a town church which prided itself on its ultra-reserved, 'high-church' atmosphere. The country man was the only person in the worship service to punctuate the minister's sermon with several Amens during the worship. He alone clapped his hands after the choir sang a moving anthem. He alone raised his hands above his head during a congregational hymn of praise. At the close of the service, a couple of deacons of the uppity church came to him and said, "Mister, you're welcome to worship here with us, but you must understand you are not to disrupt the service with your Amens, clapping and arm waving." .... "But," said the country man, "I got the Spirit, I got a good case of religion." .... "Well," said one of the deacons, "you didn't get it here." --Hank |
