Bible Question:
Thanks, I believe this also. I was another bible study forum where someone was railing against that doctrine. Do you believe Romans 5:18 disproves the doctrine of limited atonement? |
Bible Answer: I don't wan't to get into the subject of limited atonement again but let me try and explain something about being in Adam. Adam made a decision that got us all into the mess that we are in, having an old sin nature. Jesus fixed it so that we can change thing around again by making a decision that will put us back on track and in fellowship with God. Let me add that not making a decision to believe in Jesus is the same as rejecting God's plan and the alternative will not be very comfortable eternity to say the least. Jesus Christ is God's only provision for our old sin nature. Since God did all the work through his Son Jesus Christ all that is demanded of us is that we trust in and rely on what the Son did on the cross on our behalf and as a result God gives us a new nature. The problem is that once we personally believes in God's Son we have two natures; we are a new creation in Christ but we still have the old sin nature which causes a constant battle while we are still at home in these mortal bodies, Paul talked about this struggle in Romans. Romans 7:15-25 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. I know exactly what Paul was going through as I have the same problem. Have a great day in the Lord, CDBJ |
