Bible Question: Is there a reference or a version of the bible that verifies that? Why do Christian's not believe that animals have spirits? |
Bible Answer: Solomon the wisest man on earth addressed this question in Eccles. 3:19-21 For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity. 20All go to the same place. All came from the dust and all return to the dust. 21Who knows that the breath of man ascends upward and the breath of the beast descends downward to the earth? Now we are faced with deciding is verse 21 an open question or a rhetorical question? Since the question offers no choice and since one issue of it is clearly true we have to assume the question is rhetorical. On further investigation every commentary I had on the verse 3:21 comes to the same conclusion. I think it safe to say animals upon death do not go to heaven. They die and their essence goes with them into the earth. To us pet lovers that may be VERY HARD to accept and it may be something we don’t want to hear but I believe it is fact nonetheless. However this does not preclude animals in heaven. I believe there will be animals in heaven, at least horses to carry Jesus in the final battle. EdB |
