Bible Question: How can we know we are hearing from God and not following our desires or being deceived by Satan when we pray for direction in our lives? |
Bible Answer: Dear Searcher56, There are a few Scriptures that can help you with this question. [1] Hebrews 4:12 "The word of God is quick, and powerful and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and IS a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." [2] Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." and [3] Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to HIS purpose." To me, these three work like this. We need to study and meditate on the Word of God. The more we know of it, the better we can discern where our influences are coming from whether it be ourselves, Satan or the Lord. The Lord knows each and every one of His children and He knows if we are living up to the knowledge we have as yet been able to absorb. He also knows if we are faithful in that which we know. He knows our intentions and our omissions. Until we are better in our understanding of the word, if we acknowledge Him in everything...all our accomplishments even down to a nearby parking space, He will direct our paths. [We must include the seemingly little everyday things if we hope to trust Him in the big ones which only come once in awhile.] Meanwhile, when we make mistakes, He has that covered in the third, where even our mistakes "he works together for our good," so we need not fear but go ahead and trust Him in everything. I hope this is helpful to you. There are many more, but I believe this is a very good start. Itiswritten |
