Subject: Possible Lockman Forum Improvement #1? |
Bible Note: Dear Sir Pent, I completely support the 'filtering' of specific threads that are offensive or derogatory in nature, but should we really have the license to edit all threads just to make them more accessible or "look better"? I agree, this would be luxurious! But just which posts should we decide to keep and which ones should we not keep? And just who decides which ones we should keep and which ones we should not keep? If you are the "judge" of this, then does that mean that you will keep all of your particular postings on a subject and consider the postings of others as "expendable"? I do not believe that a single member of this Forum could or should accomplish such an objective task. It could only be done by Lockman itself, since it has complete ownership of this Forum, or by a Lockman appointed Forum moderator. Also, there are other problems like number of postings by users. Does this mean that if you subtract certain postings from threads, that this will reduce the total number of posts that a user has? Or will these "extra postings" be only visible when viewing all the posts that a specific user has written? Also, what if a completely new subject has spawned off the post or posts that were considered as "expendable"? Does this mean that other valid information concerning a different topic would also be lost? And just who would want to even begin to take the time to accomplish this gargantuan and monumental task? Are there really any volunteers for this? It could not be a member of this Forum simply because a single member could not remain totally and completely objective. Charis, Kalos, Hank and myself have contributed to this Forum for a long time now, and we have seen the types of things that you are proposing and some of the pitfalls of it. I pray that I was able to share some insight on what we have come to learn through the use of this Forum, and to better explain why "deleting posts" is not an idea that should be explored or undertaken by a user, but only by Lockman if The Lockman Foundation so decides. However, thank you for the idea, my friend! Indeed, we could all use some ideas to challenge us once in awhile! Thank you for your compliment, and I pray that we can continue to work to make this Forum "terrific." Your Friend, Nolan |
