Subject: How inspired is the NAS Bible today? |
Bible Note: Greetings Sir! I would say that the message of the accurate translation is authoritative because conveys the meaning of the original. What is the difference between a translation and a commentary? A translation simply tries to put the original text into a modern language. If the translator is honest and knowledgeble, the translation will accurately convey the meaning of the original. A commentary is an attempt to explain the text. They may or may not make use of the orignal text. They filter their comments through their worldview. Thus, a commentary is several steps futher removed from the inspired text. I would not agree that translations are inspired. I would agree that God has preserved His text throughout the years to a remarkable degree. Everyone is familiar with the telephone game. Most ancient texts demonstrate this principle to a high degree. However, the Biblical texts are very close. Minor variants occur, but not that many. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
