Subject: WHEN DID GOD CHANGE LIFESPAN OF MAN? |
Bible Note: Hello CDBJ, Zondervan's NASB Study Bible says a good deal about this verse, "Two key phrases in the Hebrew of this verse are obscure: the one rendered "strive with" (which could be translated "remain in") and the one rendered "is flesh" (which could be translated "is corrupt"). The verse seems to announce that the peroid of grace between God's declaration of judgment and its arrival would be 120 years (cf. 1 Peter 3:20). But if "remain in" is accepted, the verse announces that man's life span would henceforth be limited to 120 years (but see 11:10-26)." I agree, there is no real way to answer the original question without speculation. Moses in Psalm 90:10 gives us the 'closest' verse that could possibly "ordain" a certain set number of years for the lifespan of man, but it does not in fact do so.. "10 As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; For soon it is gone and we fly away."
