Bible Question:
Scripture ... Exodus 20:7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain." Norrie, Where is there keeping one's word/oaths in this commandment? Matthew 5:33-37 is not talking about this commandemnt. Jesus was talking about oral tradition ... "you have heard that it was SAID". Refer to Numbers 30:2. I am wondering if someone mistaught you or this is your own thought. If you think I added new sins to what God has said, I am sorry. However, if someone does or says something that is offensive, it is not always adding new sins. Romans 14 is an example. Nonetheless, the words you use to defame God do offend me (Matthew 18:15) ... even more, God. Searcher |
Bible Answer: there are a couple of things here. one is that I do believe that when Jesus says ( you have heard it said or you have heard that it was said he is speaking of the traditions of the time that man made but when he said (It is writen) then that is what the Lord God said now on the issue on a oath I have hear of this same thing and i can get a answer tomorrow for you but the foundation of the verse is that we as believer are to keep are word because God is a keeper of his word and we were made in the image of God But I can have more answers for you tomorrow because im not at a place were I have all of my referance materials if you have added question you can e-mail me at budfreshour@hotmail.com |
