Bible Note: John, I am sure you have heard the expression that a text without a context is a pretext. e.g. pretext "Acts 16:31 They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." These words were spoken by the apostle Paul, in answer to the frantic plea from his phillipian jailor. Notice that the verse excludes any acts of work on our part" e.g. context "Acts 16:30 and after he brought them out", he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:31 They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." Acts 16:32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him together with all who were in his house. Acts 16:33 And he took them that very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he was baptized, he and all his household." Emmaus |
