Bible Note: Dear Emmaus, I agree! Context is essential to sound interpretation. But you seem to think that I have ignored or over-looked context in this case. I don't believe that I have. To prove your point, you included verses 32 ,which included preaching, and 33, which included baptism. It is true that the preaching of the gospel (v.32) is an indispensible element of salvation. However this is a good work performed by another, and therefore cannot be construed as a good work by the recipient. Therefore, I am left to assume that you believe that, by leaving out baptism (a good work) I have erred in the use of verse 31 by claimng that it supports salvation by faith alone. You must know that (except for a minority) protestants do not believe that the Bible teaches Baptismal Regeneration! We believe that one is baptized as a outward sign of an inward conversion. It is not my intent to engage you in the merits of the two doctrines, but to correct your mis-apprehension that I ignored the context of Acts 16:31. John Reformed |
