Bible Question: I smoke but desperately want to stop. Is this a sin? |
Bible Answer: Smoking is a sin against your flesh and you will pay for that sin, in the flesh by the health problems that smoking causes, but smoking doesn’t defile you, the word defile as its used in the scripture pertaining to the things you take into your body is referring to things that bring judgment against you causing spiritual death and those are the things that come out of the mouth “after” the taking in. The only thing that you can take in that would defile you is something that would affect how you speak such as alcohol in abundance causing drunkenness and drunkenness can cause a man to speak things that would bring defilement and curtain drugs, anything that would affect “how” you speak. Mark 7:14-15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. NKJV |
