NASB | 1 Peter 3:3 Your adornment must not be merely external--braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 3:3 Your adornment must not be merely external--with interweaving and elaborate knotting of the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or [being superficially preoccupied with] dressing in expensive clothes; |
Bible Question: Does the verse: 1 Peter 3:3, mean we are not to wear any type of gold jewerly? What does this scripture mean? |
Bible Answer: The context would indicate to me that Peter is saying woman are to be meek and devoted to God, holy, trusting in God and in subjection to their husbands. That is the goal to be known for - not how bright the jewelry she's wearing. It's not the jewelry that's the issue - but rather what the focus is on. If the focus is on how much gold and fancy jewelry then the focus is in the wrong place. |
