AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 3:3 Your adornment must not be merely external--with interweaving and elaborate knotting of the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or [being superficially preoccupied with] dressing in expensive clothes; |
Bible Question: Does the verse: 1 Peter 3:3, mean we are not to wear any type of gold jewerly? What does this scripture mean? |
Bible Answer: When you consider verse 4 with verse 3 it is saying that you should not try to draw people to you with lots of jewelry, fancy hair styles, or fine and/or extravagant clothes. Instead let people be drawn to you by by what is important to God - your meek, gentle, humble spirit and loving nature. There is nothing wrong in wearing jewelry as long as you wear it so as not to draw attention to yourself because of the jewelry. It along with all other outward appearence items should be worn humbly, modestly and tastefully. |
