Bible Answer: Friend, Although Jesus died for our sins, was raised from the dead, and ascended to the Father, Man is unable to obey the truth of God without the Holy Spirit. Peter. Cast lots to see who would replace Judas before he received the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:26 casting lots was an Old Testament tradition, when the Holy Spirit was WITH men but not IN man. After the Holy Spirit came and FILLED them, they never cast lots again. They did as the Spirit led them. When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, God said man would die. Man indeed died spiritually. He could no longer commune with God on a spiritual level. Man lived according to his flesh. His spirit no longer controlled him. He only fellowshiped with God through Preists, Prophets, and the Law of Moses. Jesus said, "we must be born again" Jn 3:16 In John 7:39 Jesus said ...those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit... Our spirit is reborn by faith in Jesus Christ and repentance. Now we can again fellowship with the Father because our spirit is new. "Born Again" Jesus sent us HIS HOLY SPIRIT to dwell in us so we can obey The Father and be his witnesses. Acts 1:8 but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me. Answering your question; what is obeying the truth through the Spirit? Obeying the truth is being a witness to the resurrection of Jesus Christ by testifying what He has done in your life. Paul teaches Galatians 6:8 for he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. In contrast to obeying the truth by the Spirit, read Rom 1:24-31. These sins are what man does when he neglects to worship God. God gives us the ability to obey his truth only by the Holy Spirit fellowshipping with our newborn spirit. It is impossible to obey God without the Holy Spirit. Paul's letter to the Romans is hard to understand if you are new in the faith. I would suggest www.twft.com and listen to the teaching on Romans by Chuck Smith. |
