AMPLIFIED 2015 | Joshua 1:4 "From the wilderness [of Arabia in the south] and this Lebanon [in the north], even as far as the great river, the river Euphrates [in the east], all the land of the Hittites (Canaan), and as far as the Great [Mediterranean] Sea toward the west shall be your territory. |
Bible Question: From this verse it appears that God gave Israel more land than they are currently fighting over. Was this promise fulfilled? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Mommapbs! The Promise did not fail! Remember that there were conditions set on the Hebrews... amongt them were: a) that they had to take the land from the occupants, b) that they had to take full possession of the land by either eradicating or expelling the occupants, c) they had to live separate from the nations around them (not emulating their customs and not intermarrying with them)... Israel failed on many regards... including not taking the land when God commanded them to do it! I compare the loss of the Promised land to the loss the Holy Spirit: both the Hebrews of ancient times and Christians of modern times came short of God's Gift... the Gift was never removed or limited; it is the recipients who failed to partake of God's Gift fully! God Bless! Angel |
