NASB | James 2:19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 2:19 You believe that God is one; you do well [to believe that]. The demons also believe [that], and shudder and bristle [in awe-filled terror--they have seen His wrath]! [Deut 6:4; 11:13-21; Mark 12:29] |
Bible Question:
Since the demons believe that God is one, why aren't they saved? -Is it because of their lack of works (context of the verse)? What has believing that God is one do do with salvation? |
Bible Answer: This word "believing" has become so distorted in the way that Christians throw it around.. Yes, the demons 'believe' that God is one, and they shudder (James 2:19). However, this word means so much more to us!! Not only must we believe these simple facts of Christianity, but we must obey Him (John 14:21) and keep His commandments. Demons cannot glorify God in any way, but we can if we obey Him! Salvation happens when one accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life. This begins a new life for this person, who is now a 'believer.' Yes, this person believes, but they are also being sanctified (becoming like Christ), and demons are forever imprisoned with no hope of 'salvation' (Jude 1:6). --Nolan |
