NASB | James 1:22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 1:22 But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God's precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning contrary to the truth]. |
Subject: Christians? |
Bible Note: "If anyone thinks himself to be religious (piously observant of the external duties of his faith) and does not bridle his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person's religious service is worthless (futile, barren). James 1:27 External religious worship [religion as it is expressed in outward acts] that is pure and unblemished in the sight of God the Father is this: to visit and help and care for the orphans and widows in their affliction and need, and to keep oneself unspotted and uncontaminated from the world." I do not believe, James is not speaking of salvation here, but rather unfruitful believers. Unfruitful because the Word of truth is not being allowed to 'change' them which is the progressive work of the Holy Spirit and the Word mixed with faith. Got to go, we can talk more tomorrow. I will read Acts tonight for fresh input. God bless |
