NASB | Hebrews 7:8 In this case mortal men receive tithes, but in that case one receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives on. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 7:8 Furthermore, here [in the Levitical priesthood] tithes are received by men who are subject to death; but in that case [concerning Melchizedek], they are received by one of whom it is testified that he lives on [perpetually]. |
Bible Question: Will God judge preachers who preach "curse" on people who do not pay tithes, since tithes do not apply to the NT and Christians should give chearfully? |
Bible Answer: Truth Fighter Tithing was instituted before the law as method of honor and worship. God has promised to honor those that honor him with a their tithe. But no, we do not have to pay a tithe. Do you pay your fair share, not to enrich men but to accomplish the work of the Lord? If you do don’t worry about what anyone says. If not, why not? In life we have to pay our way if everyone in church did they would be able to feed and cloth the hungry and naked, to spread the gospel and take care of the widows and orphans. Unfortunately most that attend church refuse to pay their fair share and many are left to starve and go naked, still others will never hear of Jesus. Also within the church are those that enrich themselves instead of being stewards of God’s money. What is your fair share? It depends on you and your income and what God has purposed in your heart to give. In most cases ten percent is a good place to start. If everyone that could would give 10 percent and if the money was used wisely not to enrich someone or build extravagant buildings there would be no hungry, no naked, no un-cared for widows and orphans.
