Bible Question:
Hello, erm I know Jesus told us to pray to our Heavenly Father through his name, that is Jesus himself. This is mentioned in 1 Tim 2:5. Am I right that it is WRONG to pray to anyone eg Mary, Jesus' mother which the Catholic does as I was once a Catholic. Can you confirm this? |
Bible Answer: Dear Christian 2003, Hank's response to you was on the mark. No need for any others. But just as encouragement for some of the other answers you may receive will be off the mark, please read the following. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. “Never has a prayer ascended to God save through Jesus Christ. Never has a blessing come down to man save through the same Divine Mediator. There is now a highway, a way of holiness wherein the redeemed can walk to God, and God can come to us. The king's highway” – C. H. Spurgeon “no man cometh unto the Father but by me; Christ is the only way of access unto the Father; there is no coming to God as an absolute God, not upon the foot of the covenant of works, nor without a Mediator; and the only Mediator between God and man is Christ: he introduces and presents the persons and services of his people to his Father, and gives them acceptance with him.” – John Gill 1Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; …”according to Paul, Christ's giving himself a ransom was a necessary part of the Mediator's office; and indeed this lays the foundation for his intercession.” – Matthew Henry Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; “in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; for all the mercies of God's people, both temporal and spiritual, come through him, and for his sake; and thanksgivings for them are only acceptable to God as they are offered up by him; nor is there any other way of bringing them to God, but through him:” – John Gill “In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ - That is, through his mediation, or trusting in him;” – Albert Barnes Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Stand in His grace, WOS |
