Bible Note: When Christ came the first time and brought in the new covenant the message was proclaimed to all the people. There were many responses to His message. Some embraced the message but when persecution started they decided maybe it wasn't what they wanted. Some wanted to mix the priethood of the old covenant with the new covenant. This was not proper. The Apostle Paul explains in several of his letters why. It was especially hard for those in positions of leadership, the priesthood, to give up their exalted positions. Their influence caused an uproar in some of the cities Paul visited. They would follow him around and cause trouble. Some who seemed to receive the message went back to the old covenant maybe to please their peers and the priests. A study of faith and hearts might help you understand this topic. A study of the priesthood, Leviticus, a study of Hebrews, the new covenant compared to the old covenant, a study of Acts, the history of the church, and Paul's epistles, shows this controversy.
