AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 12:24 and to Jesus, the Mediator of a new covenant [uniting God and man], and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks [of mercy], a better and nobler and more gracious message than the blood of Abel [which cried out for vengeance]. [Gen 4:10] |
Bible Question:
Does Passover have a connection with the resurrection? There are many people who are very devout in their celebration of passover, and I would like to know if there is a modern connection. I feel led to remove myself further from the celebration of Easter, which stems from ishtar. All the God-fearing people who celebrate Passover can not be considered as going backwards. Did not Jesus celebrate Passover? |
Bible Answer: Dear sonofmom, You asked, "Does Passover have a connection with the resurrection?" The celebration of the Passover arises from the events in Exodus 12 and, including an annual, sin atoning sacrifice of a lamb for each family. Holy Week arises from the events of the week of the Lord Jesus Christ's life of ministry as recorded in the gospels, culminating in the one single and final sacrifice of the perfect Lamb of God, once and for all for God's elect. The former was a picture of the future fulfillment of the latter (Hebrews 10:1). The former was temporary, the latter was permanent (Hebrews 10:10). The former was inadequate, the latter was final (Hebrews 9:26). The former was a work of man in a temple made by hands, offering up the blood of animals; the latter is the work of God in the heavens, offering up the blood of the perfect Lamb of God (Hebrews 9:11-12). Etc. Etc. You are looking to the past as having some kind of superiority to the present. Remember, the mixing of paganism in the world's modern practices came straight out of the past. You are looking at the practices of others that you deem "God-fearing" (sic) as better than the practices of others. Remember, the Jew reject God's provision in Christ in its entirety (Acts 7:51). Worst of all, you are looking to your feelings as some sort of infallible guide. Remember, the heart is more deceitful than anything else in creation (Jeremiah 17:9)... and guess who it deceives most frequently! Son, you need a whole new mindset. You need to focus on God, who He is and what He has done, from the Scriptures, "the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience." Corrie ten Boom had a wonderful little saying, "Look without and be distressed. Look within and be depressed. Look above and be at rest." Study the Word, feed on it. The Word is God's primary means of self-revelation. Then use it as the lens through which you look at the world and, more importantly, look at yourself. Then, armed with the truth, then is the time to do the feeling stuff. In Him, Doc |
