NASB | Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which it was testified of him that he was righteous (upright, in right standing with God), and God testified by accepting his gifts. And though he died, yet through [this act of] faith he still speaks. [Gen 4:3-10] |
Bible Question: If the offering is not the reason, then why did God have no regard for Cain? |
Bible Answer: I do not know the reason, because the reason is not given in the text. Therefore, I do not think it is appropriate to declare that we know the reason. As to a possible reason, we have examples in scripture of God refusing a sacrifice, not because the sacrifice was bad, but because of the attitude of the sacrificer (see Amos 5:21-24 for example). Provision was made in the Mosaic Law for grain offerings (Lev 2). Also, a poor man could even use a grain offering as a sin offering (Lev 5:11). |
