AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 10:29 How much greater punishment do you think he will deserve who has rejected and trampled under foot the Son of God, and has considered unclean and common the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and has insulted the Spirit of grace [who imparts the unmerited favor and blessing of God]? Bible Note: Greetings and thanks for your reponse! Isn't deliberate and willful sin (rejection of Christ's atonement for our sin) uncomprehensible? Each of us knows that we are "deficient" in some way, we know in the core of our being that we don't measure up . . . now let's place what we know about ourselves in the Light of God's Holiness - woe is me! Throughout Scripture we see the record of God's response toward unbelief - indeed it is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God! And all that wrath against sin was poured out upon and satisfied by the death of Jesus. Now, did Jesus die for the "godly" or the ungodly"? Romans 5:8 tells me that while I was a sinner, an enemy of God, Jesus died for me, the ungodly. So, when I am offered the forgiveness and righteousness that come to me by faith, how could I persist in unbelief (deliberate and willingly sin)? How glad I am that I didn't, and yet the sad reminder of this verse is that there are those who do - they reject the Truth, not only about themselves, but about the free gift of grace - the Supreme love of God . . . ddemonstrated ONCE for ALL - no wonder Jesus said, "It is finished!"
