NASB | Hebrews 10:29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 10:29 How much greater punishment do you think he will deserve who has rejected and trampled under foot the Son of God, and has considered unclean and common the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and has insulted the Spirit of grace [who imparts the unmerited favor and blessing of God]? [Ex 24:8] |
Bible Question:
According to this verse, WHO is guilty of trampling "under foot the Son of God and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace"? |
Bible Answer: At this point, I am lead to vv 26-28. For if we go on deliberately and willingly sinning after once acquiring the knowledge of the Truth, there is no longer any sacrifice left to atone for [our] sins [no further offering to which to look forward]. [There is nothing left for us then] but a kind of awful and fearful prospect and expectation of divine judgment and the fury of burning wrath and indignation which will consume those who put themselves in opposition [to God]. Any person who has violated and [thus] rejected and set at naught the Law of Moses is put to death without pity or mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. The WHO who 1. Continues to deliberately and willingly sin (v26) 2. Rejects Christ (v28) My reasoning for #2 is that the writer of Hebrews was comparing the old covenant with the new, the sacrifice of bulls and goats with Christ. In v28, the writer makes reference to those who rejected the Law of Moses (old covenant) being put to death. Likewise, those who reject the Law of Christ (new covenant), there by rejecting Christ himself, remain in death and have not been passed from death unto life (1 John 3:14). That's the answer I believe the Holy Spirit leads me too. |
