Subject: Translating 'Tradition' |
Bible Note: Greetings Robin! I would hesitate to accuse translators of foul play simply because you don't like their choices. :-) As someone who has done quite a bit of translation, I would prefer consistency. However, even the choice of the word 'tradition' as a translation may be a poor choice. The word is a noun refering to something 'handed over' or 'passed on'. In some ancient literature, it can even refer to an arrest or a betrayal. Given that 'tradition' has taken on such widely differing meanings in our day, perhaps it should not be used as a translation at all. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
