Bible Question: Who were Jesus’ main opponents during His public ministry time? Why did they oppose Him, and how? |
Bible Answer: The Jewish leaders (Pharisees and Sadducees) were the main opposers of Jesus' ministry here on earth. They had expectations of the coming Messiah that Jesus did not meet. For example, He was not rich or born in a palace, (Luke 2:1-17) and he did not come from a popular family or locality, (Micah 5:2) and He was not especially physically attractive. (Isaiah 53:2) He did not go about seeking a kingdom here on earth. (Psalms 145:13; Matthew 4:17) He preached many things about God and heaven that contradicted what they, as leaders, taught the people in their synagogues (churches). (Matthew 7:28) He did not keep their "Sabbath", (Matthew 12:1-14) and did many miracles that attracted the crowds to Him. (Matthew 4:23-25) |
