Bible Question:
The husband of but one wife??? Does this mean that he can never be married? Or does it mean one wife at a time? What if he is divorced for the Biblical reason (adultery)? Can anyone point me to scriptures to figure this out? Thanks, Rocky |
Bible Answer: This topic has been debated before ... Look at the threads for this verse and Titus 1:6, and the verses after. There are at least four views 1. Must be married and never divorced 2. Must be married, could be divorced, Bibically could be divorced, Bibically 3. May be single, could be divorced, Bibically 4. May benever married Elder, in the Greek, is presbuteros (Strong's 4245) 1Ti 5:19, 1Pe 5:1, 2Jo 1:1, 3Jo 1:1. Episkopos (Strong's 1985) is the word for overseer. Some interchange these words, but they are different. |
