AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no one in any way deceive or entrap you, for that day will not come unless the apostasy comes first [that is, the great rebellion, the abandonment of the faith by professed Christians], and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction [the Antichrist, the one who is destined to be destroyed], [Dan 7:25; 8:25; 1 Tim 4:1] |
Subject: The rapture will NOT happen until... |
Bible Note: That is certainly one point of view, however there are still a few loose ends. First is this passage talking about one or two distinct events? Second if it is one event is 2 Thess. 2 talking about the rapture or is talking about the second coming? Could it be this passage is giving more information about the second coming that isn't included elsewhere? Thirdly, it is agreed it says the son of destruction is revealed, but will we recognized him? Judas is revealed many times as betrayer of Jesus but it wasn't until his action in the garden that the disciples understood he was in fact betraying Jesus. So when it says revealed is does it mean we will all know X is the Antichrist? Or does it mean as we are traveling to heaven we will say of course that was the Antichrist? Or does it mean as we sit as the marriage supper Jesus will teach us that X is the Antichrist? Fourthly how do we reconcile this passage with Matt 24:37-43? Fifthly can we say this is in fact talking about the Antichrist and not the False Prophet or his Beast? I see this presented view as one very possible scenario but there are other views that could occur and not violate scripture. Before someone tries to engrave this in stone as the answer they need resolve the outstanding questions that surround this Scripture. EdB |
