Subject: Should the pastor be honored as a king. |
Bible Note: Greetings Irbroyles! The role of a pastor in the church and just exactly how a pastor should be 'viewed' is explained in Luke 22:24-30.. To be viewed as an effective leader, we must prove that not only is our service to others heartfelt and genuine, but it also must be 'viewed' as such by those whom are our 'flock'.. Only true servanthood will gain true 'followers' and disciples. If we could only grasp this concept, that our Lord alone deserves all the glory, then we would do so much better when we review our own witness in a sober and realistic light. "Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet.." John C. Maxwell, the senior pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church in Lemon Grove CA (largest Wesleyan Church in the Nation), states in his book entitled 'Developing The Leader Within You', "People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care." To respond to your question: No, the pastor should not be treated like a king. However, the pastor should be esteemed on the basis of the pastor's influence and example of servanthood which help define a pastor's overall leadership. Nolan |
