Subject: Why do we have Jesus stuck in a manger? |
Bible Note: Norm, your postings are confusing me. Your idea of taking “pagan customs and try to make them Christian” seems to be a wrong basis for NOT doing something. Please answer some questions to help me understand your thoughts. Thank you. If you believe we must abstain from “pagan custom” - What do you use to sweep your home since “pagan customs” have witches flying on brooms? Or do you use Isa 14:23 to counterbalance that superstition? “…and I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, saith the Lord of Hosts.” Witches observe the Sabbath, so we shouldn’t, right? And if “doing what pagans do" makes us pagan, does it make them Christians when they do what Christians do? The Jews use the moon to map out their festivals, as the Lord instructed them in the OT And, the Christmas story has men "looking to the stars for direction". Was it "Christian", or was it "pagan" for the Jews and the wise men to use astrology as such, seeing Scripture instucts AND warns about such? Was Paul using “deceitful means” in his dealings with pagans? 1 Cor 9:19-21 “I am not anyone’s slave. But I have become a slave to everyone, so that I can win as many people as possible. When I am with the Jews, I live like a Jew to win Jews. They are ruled by the Law of Moses, and I am not. But I live by the Law to win them. And when I am with people who are not ruled by the Law, I forget about the Law to win them…” Now back to whether or not to celebrate Chrsitmas - In my experiance, the cynical, seem so narrow they need both eyes to peek through the tiny keyhole of their limited interpretation of “this topic”. Which “wins the most souls” around this time of year? Those of "your camp"? Or, do those who understand the wonders of Christmas, and celebrate Jesus’ birth to its fullest "win" more? Blessings and thanks in advance for giving me a clearer understanding, Taleb |
