Bible Question: I've been a Christian for about 3 years now. In a bible study of ours, some Christian scholars suggested that Jesus was not born on Dec. 25 because of the path Mary and Joseph took--they say it would be unlikely that His birth was in the winter, rather more like Spring. Does anyone has information on this? |
Bible Answer: A biblical approach. Assumptions must be made, i.e. normal 9 month pregnancy and the divisions of service began with the first month of the year. Month one in the Hebrew calendar is Abib, Ex 13:4, our March or April depending on the year. Of John the Baptist, father Zarachyrias, division of Abijah, Luke 1:5 Abijah lot is 8, 1 Chron 24:10 Each division served for a month, 1 Chron 27:1 and a few of the following verses. Zaracharias ended his service, Luke 1:23 John the Baptist is conceived in the days after. That puts his conception in the 9th month our November/December Elizabeth is 6 months pregnant at the conception of Jesus, Luke 1:36, this puts the conception of Jesus in May/June The birth of Jesus would then be in Feburary or March, which could either be the first Hebrew month or the last.
