Bible Question:
"Our citizenship is in heaven." Two questions: (1) Does it mean we will live ultimately in heaven? (2) Is the heaven the same place where Paul was caught up? (2 Corinthians 12:2) |
Bible Answer: Hi, 123... Question 1: This is a repeated metaphor of Christians (similar to sheep, vine branches, adopted sons, etc.). We are pilgrims on earth looking to our eternal dwelling (cf Hebrews 11:9-10; Revelation 22:1-8). Question 2: The ancients used the word heaven for three distinct "places." We'd see them as (1) the atmosphere, (2) the firmament, and (3) heaven where the dwelling place of God. Thus we have Paul's mention of a "third heaven" in 2 Corinthians 12:2. This had led some into an erroneous assumption that there are levels of heaven and hell. In Him, Doc |
