Bible Question:
What's in a name? Someone has said that a rose by any name would smell as sweet. But the name is important, once it is attached to it, because it identifies the flower. It saves us time each time we would go to it, so that we do not need to look at the others, except perhaps as a backdrop and a comparison, as we go to it. What's in the name Jesus? I hope that everyone will flock to it and taste of it and talk about it. |
Bible Answer: Scripture often uses the term 'name' to denote God Himself. For instance: Revelation 3 8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. He could have also said "...hast not denied Me" instead of name. I just thought this was interesting. There's also a name for God that we don't know: Revelation 19 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. |
