Bible Question (short): Should Children Die For Parent's Sin? |
Question (full): While the principle of each dying for their own sin is acknowledged in Deuteronomy 24:16, there seem to be cases where it was not put in practice. For example, the child born to David and Bathsheba died because of their sin (2Sa 12:14-18). And Saul's seven grandchildren were put to death because of Saul's sin (2Sa 21:5-9). How are we to reconcile these contradictory sets of facts? The Bible says the sins of the fathers have an ill effect on the children to the third and fourth generations (Exo 20:5; Deu 5:9). Is this a direct contradiction of Deuteronomy 24:16? Steve |
