Bible Question: how do you as a NEW wife show your'e husband he is not disaplinging you out of God's love but out of frustration? |
Bible Answer: Dear V: First, what kind of "discipline" is involved here? Second, a husband who insists on "disciplining" his wife should be asked to show proof of his scriptural authority wherein he, "out of God's love" as you say, is instructed to or has been vested with the right to "discipline" his wife. He won't find it in Scripture. The wife's being adaptive to or submissive to the husband as the head of the household does not give the husband license to crack the disciplinary whip. Colossians 3:18 says, "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord" but the very next verse says, "Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them." .... And Ephesians 5:25: "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her." And in Ephesians 5:28: "So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself." ..... If the "new wife" in your question is you or a close friend or relative, and this new wife is having serious problems of establishing a proper, balanced, loving and scripturally-grounded relationship with her husband, the prudent thing to do is to make every effort possible to talk things out together, frankly and lovingly. Then if the problems persist, seek qualified counsel from a pastor or other professional who is skilled and experienced in helping to resolve domestic problems. --Hank |
