Bible Note: Hi Mike7, Christ in you, the hope of glory: Colossians 1:28, "and we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in Christ. And for this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me." We are complete in Christ, we walk in Him, and He has made us alive together in Him, having forgiven us all our transgression. This came about because of the removal of the flesh by the circumsion of Christ. This is a spiritual circumcision and baptism spoken of here in Colossians 2:11,12. When we are complete in Christ we desire to serve Him for He is now our Lord and Master as well as our friend and brother. Now we desire for spiritual wisdom and guidance so we look more and more to God's word, the Bible, always looking to the Teacher and the Spirit of truth. In order to walk with Him we must continually be fed with His word. We must be filled with holy spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:9, NKJ, "For it is written: 'Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.' But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God." So I view God as the Giver and the holy spirit as the gift given, even the deep things of God. We receive the spirit from God and the things are spiritually discerned; nothing comes from us as natural men. 1 Corinthians 2:16, NKJ, "For 'who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?' But we have the mind of Christ." I have stated this belief about the "holy spirit" in the past and have not gotten much response; but I offer it for your consideration. 1 Corinthians 2:12, my penciled-in copy for what it is worth, "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the *spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." Note the "receiving the spirit" of verses 12 and 14 in the NKJ. Note the contrast between us as believers and the natural man. I also believe that God gives the spirit without measure. See John 3:34. The words of God are a gift to us all. From the heart, Ray |
