Bible Note: Hi Ray, So if I understand you correctly, the "holy spirit" is the "words of God, and knowledge of the works of God", or "the sayings and doings of God". But where in the text do we find this meaning? Can you offer me even one verse that shows this meaning, in the words that it contains? Or a group of verses that demonstrate this interpretation, by the words they use? When the Holy Spirit fills someone, they often then speak the Word of God with boldness, but this is what I expect, because this is what Jesus said. John 14:26 but the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things and shall remind you of all things that I said to you. I treat the meaning of terms used in the Scripture consistently unless I find a textual basis to do otherwise, and I just do not see any textual basis to interpret the words "Holy Spirit" as anything other that One Person of the Triune God. You wrote: "So I see them "filled with the holy spirit" and the [Holy] Spirit giving them [ability] to speak out those words." How or where does the Bible give us the permission to see the first reference of "spirit" in this verse as an impersonal force, and the second reference as a Person? I sense a good spirit in you, Ray, and I do not mean any of this in an unkind way, I just do not see this interpretation contained in the scriptures. Love in Christ, Mark |
