AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace [God's remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; |
Bible Question: As a Christian, can OUR faith save us? Peter denied Christ 3 times. If his faith is stronger than mine and he failed at the most crucial moment how could my faith possibly save me. Rather is it not the perfect faith of Christ that saves me. Is the faith spoke of in the bible really the faith of our Lord? |
Bible Answer: Hi, RNtim... I don't want to take away from the our Brother Brad's post. Hopefully what I'll say will augment it, if possibly from a slightly different direction. It is easy to get our causes and effects mixed up. We aren't saved by faith, rather we are saved by God. He is responsible from start to finish (Hebrews 12:2a). Faith is not the cause, faith is His gift (Ephesians 2:8). The cause of our salvation is God's grace, the means is justification. Regarding Peter, keep in mind that it is the general bent of a life that demonstrates the perseverance of the elect. David is another prime example. Regarding your final question, sometimes people interpret the phrase in Philippians 3:9 as Christ's faith. However, that verse is speaking of the righteousness of Christ, which is what justification is all about. Therein is our assurance! In Him, Doc |
