NASB | Galatians 5:16 ¶ But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 5:16 ¶ But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts]. |
Bible Question:
Paul tells believers by what means (how) they can avoid carrying out the desires of the flesh, namely, by walking by the Spirit. But I don't remember hearing an explanation of this verse that didn't sound like a buch of religious, pious mumbo-jumbo. Does anybody out there want to take a shot at explaning how to walk by the Spirit (how do we do the How)? Please be biblical and sensible. |
Bible Answer: To walk in the Spirit simply means to be obedient to the Holy Spirit. (Rom 8:16) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: When the Spirit tells you to do something, do it. When He says no, don't do it. How do we know when He is telling us something. A good start are the things Charis listed in his posting. We MUST mediate on the Word and fellowship with the Father every day in prayer. The Spirit will never lead us contrary to the Word and will always lead us to bring glory to the Father in all we do. As you grow in your relationship with Him, it will become easier to hear His voice and discern His leading in your life. later...wdc |
