Bible Question:
Afternoon all, In Genesis, 26 where God says let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness.... If the US is referring to The Father, The Son and the holy Spirit. And The Father, The Son and the holy Spirit, are ONE, Then why would he not just say "I will make man in my Image after My likeness? |
Bible Answer: Hi, ucmenew! John 1:1-2,14a says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. . ." 1 John 5:7 says, "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." God uses US because there are three functional manifestations of Him. Jesus, God's Word in the flesh, is whose image man (human)is made in: Hebrews 1:3a says, "Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person. . ." We weren't made in the image of the Father, He's a Spirit (John 4:24) and we weren't made in the image of the Holy Spirit, He's also Spirit (John 14:17). Man was made in the "likeness of God" in that man was made without sin and death (eternal). When man ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, sin entered and so did death (Isaiah 59:2; 1 Corinthians 15:21) making man very "unlike God and in need of a Savior.
