Subject: Understand Hagar and Sarah illustration? |
Bible Note: Greetings Searcher! My understanding is that Hagar represents the Covenant of Law and that Sara represents the Covenant of Grace or promise. Paul himself says that he is speaking figuratively, so I don't think we can get hung up on the fact that the Law was actually given through Sara's children! :-) Hagar represents those who are trying to earn salvation through the Law, while Sara represents those who receive as the fulfillment of a promise. Those who follow the Law are slaves, those who follow the promise are free. This is definitely a good example of way only inspired writers should use allegory! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
