AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 4:21 ¶ Tell me, you who are bent on being under the Law, do you not listen to [what] the Law [really says]? |
Bible Question: Can someone please help me to understand the illustration made here? Hagar and Sarah are used to illustrate people under the law and people who are free in christ, but I don't totally get it. |
Bible Answer: Hagar and her son represent the fulfilling of God’s promises by our own efforts, the Jews under the Law, if you do these things you will live. The birth of Isaac was the result of God fulfilling His promise, not the effort of man but the Grace of God, the righteous shall live by faith. Eph 2: 8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God's gift-- 9 not from works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are His making, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them. philemcc |
