NASB | Galatians 3:24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 3:24 with the result that the Law has become our tutor and our disciplinarian to guide us to Christ, so that we may be justified [that is, declared free of the guilt of sin and its penalty, and placed in right standing with God] by faith. |
Bible Question: In Romans it is stated that we are not under the Law but under grace. How come in the Old testament God required the Jews to obey all His commandments. If they too like us are save by faith? Why then were they required to obey the Law. |
Bible Answer: We are commanded to obey the moral law of God as well. We are saved by faith, but that faith will result in works which correspond to the moral guidelines Moses gave the Israelites as well. The Jews were never saved by following the commandments. The moral law taught them how God's covenant people should live, and apply to us as well. The Holy Spirit also uses the law to convict people regarding their sin. The sacrificial law pointed to the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. The ceremonial cleanliness and dietary laws distinguished Israel from the nations around them and do not apply to Gentiles at all. "For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith." --Romans 4:13 --Joe! |
