Bible Note: Dear Inquisitor, You asked, "I'm not certain but it seems you're trying to imply that my post was 'speculating outside what has been revealed.'" I am sorry, I had hoped to be more perspicuous: I intended to state that explicitly, not imply it. Implications are of dubious value, and certainly of no value in attaining a positive result to a rebuke. You asked, "Would you care to elaborate and pinpoint which particular statement is in conflict?" I will. I'll have to go back through and collect them from various threads, but I can do that if you really need me to. You wrote, "I try very hard with all of my posts to this Forum to keep my statements within the bounderies of God's Word, or at least His Intent." (sic) The first part of that statement is very good. We are trying to assist you in achieving that objective more successfully. Relative to God's intent, that is revealed solely through the Word. This is what is meant by sola scriptura. You wrote, "Surely you don't think our Lord forbids us to use our imagination when He leaves out some of the details in His stories." If we articulate our imagination (1) it must not be contrary to what Scripture reveals, or (2) encourages the less learned to place a high value on speculations in general -- please read 1 Timothy 1:3-8. Furthermore, we are a forum all about what the Word says... not about what the Word does not say. There are many other forums on the Internet for those sorts of things. You wrote, "I'm hoping to walk away from this thread of dicsussion with some encouragement." (sic) That is our objective in correcting you, son. We gain no satisfaction except in magnifying the Word of God, and teaching others to handle it skillfully. To that end, we regularly beseech the Lord, for ourselves as well as for you. You wrote, "Do you have any such words for me?" Yes, let me go ahead and quote that passage I cited above: As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith. But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion, wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions. But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully... (1 Timothy 1:3-8 NASB) In Him, Doc |
