Bible Question:
My Friend, Thanks for your reply Did you read it carefully where did Abram get the tenth? Genesis 14:13-20 And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram. And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan. And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus. And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people. And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. Did you mean you are willing to slaughter Kings or anybody and then get thier goods and give tithes to the Lord? My friend, sometimes when you read the verses can you you read it completely, dont read it verse by verse. Please take a look from 3:6 In Malachi 3:6-10 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return? Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Is he talking to you? or to the decendants of Jacob? (are you a JEW? I'm concern I maybe mistaken if you are Jew people)If you are not Jew and then we are belong to the same Apostle which is Paul. YOU QUOTED LUKE 18:12 Here again you read take it in just one verse could you please read it until verse 17 and tell me if Jesus Christ, justified the one that you mentioned in Luke 18:12, Luke 18:12-17 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein. In that verses its very clear that we are not going to be justified by the law of Moses if recall he tell Jesus that He followed carefully the commandments of Moses (ten commandments and others) but then the question Is he justified? Please Answer Acts 13:39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Is the tilthe included in the law of Moses? I sure its included. Are we going to be Justified by the law of Moses? if the law of moses can justified us (gentiles) Jesus Christ need not to be crusified. Take a look at this next verse that I will quote here: Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. The law and the prophets were until John: Now I will ask you a question? Did the tilthe is including in the law of prophets? If it is include there, and what is the question? Im not telling you that giving is wrong, if you can give more than that is more acceptable to God (Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give;)we also know that most of the Apostle gave even thier lives. But tilthe is not the requirements so you can go to Heaven. 2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. I hope you can answer those question to me. In Christ, Johnny |
Bible Answer: Johnny- Although tithing is not a requirement for salvation, the old testament was given for our learning also. One tenth is a portion that was used then, and it was just as important to the pople then as a tenth is now. The promises God gave His people Israel are also now ours, through Christ. And some basic principles hold true. What you give you will receive. Do you believe that the Lord will follow through on His promises? He says to test Him in this. But it does depend on where your heart is about it. I heard that the word "cheerful" as in cheerful giver could be translated "hilarious". I love the idea of being so glad to give back to the Lord what He has given that you are hilarious about it. If one is looking at the principle just for the idea of payback or to become richer in money, that is the wrong attitude. Again, Jesus stressed all along that it is the position of the heart. When in doubt, the tithe is a good rule of thumb. Debbie |
