Subject: The Soul after Death |
Bible Note: Whatever event is being described it is NOT the setting up of His Kingdom, that took place in Jerusalem in 33AD (Acts 2) In Acts 1:1-8 Jesus is speaking to His apostles of "things concerning the kingdom of God" v3. Following on from their questions to Him, Jesus told them they would receive power ("not many days from now") v5 then they would be His witnesses "...even to the remotest part of the earth" v8. Mark 9:1 "they would see the kingdom of God after it had come with power". In Acts 2:29-30 Peter reminds his hearers of God's promise to David "to seat one of his descendants on his throne" looked ahead to Jesus who "God has made both Lord (king) and Christ (messiah). Acts 8:12 "preached the good news about the kingdom of God". Col 1:13 "For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and TRANSFERRED us to the kingdom of His beloved Son". The apostle writing to the Corinthians said the "Christ at His coming, then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when he has abolished all rule and all authority and power". 1 Cor 15:23-26. When He comes it is not to set up the kingdom of God, but to hand over the kingdom to God. Christ had the kingdom of God, had completed His reign, and now hands it back to the Father. "For He must REIGN UNTIL he has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished in death" v25-26. Rev 1:6 "He HAS (not will in the future)made us to be a kingdom ..." John was a partaker in he tribulation AND kingdom, 1:9. All references to the kingdom of God before Acts 2 look forward to the kingdom coming, and back to the kingdom as a reality after Acts 2. |
