AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 13:5 ¶ Test and evaluate yourselves to see whether you are in the faith and living your lives as [committed] believers. Examine yourselves [not me]! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves [by an ongoing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test and are rejected as counterfeit? |
Bible Question:
Referring to Rom 14/13 What's the difference between stating an opinion about a person and judging one? Tnx |
Bible Answer: Hi d9uga, Welcome to the forum. You enter the forum at a time when it will be very easy to see examples of this question. We have an ongoing "debate" between followers of Calvin and followers of Arminius. As mere men the debaters will be tempted to assault and judge someone instead of keeping the focus on the opinions expressed. I believe that the difference is one of spirit, especially the spirit of love. It also relates to the desire to test ourselves within ourselves rather than to judge others. We must try to love others as we love ourselves. I think also that we test the spirits of men to look for Jesus Christ and the proof that the (Christ) is within them. 2 Corinthians 13:5-9, NASB, parentheses mine for comparison, "Test yourselves to see if you are of the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you--unless you fail the test? 6 But I trust that you will realize that we ourselves do not fail the test. 7 Now we pray to (God) that you do no wrong; not that we ourselves may appear approved, but that you may do what is right, even though we should appear unapproved. 8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth. 9 For we rejoice when we ourselves are weak but you are strong; this we also pray for, that you be made complete." Again, welcome to the forum. You will enjoy it, or continue to enjoy it when the fellowship of the holy spirit is with us all. 2 Cor 13:14, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God/, and the fellowship of the *holy *spirit be with you all."
