AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 9:25 Now every athlete who [goes into training and] competes in the games is disciplined and exercises self-control in all things. They do it to win a crown that withers, but we [do it to receive] an imperishable [crown that cannot wither]. |
Bible Question: How is it then, that we are to be both self controlled, and be filled (controlled) by the Holy Spirit, Eph 5:18? |
Bible Answer: Ecellent question! It is impossible for us to be controlled by the Holy Spirit and then also excercise self controll. For this to happen we would be in the likeness of Christ. For Jesus was the only one to be fully human and fully diety and sinned not. Hebrews 4 15For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Each person is responsible for there own actions. If we were controlled by the Holy Spirit we would not sin, we could not sin, for God cannot sin. Romans 14 12So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Eph 5:18 says to be filled with the Spirit. A person is filled with the Spirit by reading the Bible. Ephesians 3 3how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: Hope this helped with your question.
